Alma Reid McGlenn, Tulsa's first librarian, graduated from Carnegie Library School and came to Tulsa by way of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She accepted the position in Tulsa in 1912. In the library's six-month report, McGlenn wrote: "The success of any nation in contributing toward human happiness depends largely upon its public institutions... the best proof of the value of our public library lies in the cordial support which has been given in the six months of its existence, and in the future may it contribute to the fund of wholesome recreation that sweetens life and to the wider knowledge that broadens it."
