The piers and west abutment wall have been poured on the new eastbound I-44 bridge over 21st Street, and work is under way on the east abutment wall. Crews also are pouring the concrete retaining wall sections that slope from the abutment wall to street level. The dirt needs to be leveled on the east embankment before those wall sections are poured. The bridge's steel girders are on site and should be erected within a few weeks.
