The new 56th Street North bridge over Bird Creek opened in the fall of 2010, which eliminated two load-zoned bridges in Tulsa County. The project began in early 2010 with the removal of the old steel-truss bridge and the wooden flood-relief bridge to the west. The new bridge, which has two lanes and shoulders, is one structure that is longer than the original creek bridge but shorter than the area previously covered by both bridges. The area where the flood-relief bridge stood has been filled in with dirt and became part of the new roadway. The bridge project included widening and rebuilding about a mile of 56th Street North with new asphalt, including shoulders. Photograph taken December 19, 2010.
