This view shows I-44 looking west from Union Avenue. This section of I-44 is less traveled than the section east of the Arkansas River, and, according to reports, there are no plans to widen the section at this time. The Union Avenue exit ramp, which also serves 51st Street (behind the trees at right), is on the right. The westbound frontage road at right begins just east of U.S. 75 and provides access to Elwood Avenue, the ramps at U.S. 75, and Union Avenue/51st Street before entering I-44 in the background. There is no frontage road on the north side of I-44 from this point west to I-244, which is between 33rd and 49th West avenues (in the distance). There is a frontage road on the south side, which provides access to different businesses, including the Rio Motel (back left). A separate frontage road begins just west of Union Avenue and serves Union, U.S. 75 and Elwood Avenue (exit only) before re-entering I-44 just west of the former Midland Valley Railroad bridge.
