Construction is under way on building temporary bridges on I-44 over 21st Street and Mingo Creek. The 21st Street bridge is under way, and a steel pier consisting of five steel beams and lattice work is being built in the eastbound left lane of 21st Street, which has narrowed eastbound traffic on 21st Street to one lane in the area. Work is under way on building a temporary passing lane on the south side of the street that, upon completion, will allow two lanes of traffic on 21st Street by detouring around the bridge pier. The location of this temporary bridge indicates that the westbound bridges will be the first to be replaced in the project. A temporary bridge also will be built over Mingo Creek, but it has not been started. Photograph takern February 24, 1989.
