I-244 passes through a mini canyon at Lewis Avenue as shown in this view looking west from a pedestrian overpass near Birmingham Avenue. There is not an "exit" to Lewis Avenue. Instead, motorists wishing to access Lewis Avenue from I-244 must either exit at Delaware Avenue (westbound) or Utica Avenue (eastbound) and follow Admiral Place (which serves as a frontage road) to Lewis Avenue. The same situation occurs for motorists exiting/entering I-244 to the west of Harvard Avenue, as they must exit at Delaware Avenue to access Harvard Avenue. The east side of Harvard Avenue has direct access to I-244, and each major street east of Harvard Avenue has direct access to I-244 for both directions except at Mingo Road and 129th East Avenue, which have no access to the east due to their proximities to adjacent expressways.
