The final first-phase detour for the 81st Street and Harvard Avenue intersection project has been paved. The detour, which is located on the north side of 81st Street on the intersection's east approach, is much lower than the present roadway, which indicates that the new road's grade will be much lower than it is today. The opening of this detour will allow work to begin on the eastbound lanes of 81st Street east of Harvard Avenue. Dirt work is continuing on these lanes west of Harvard Avenue.
