This view shows Peoria Avenue looking south toward 71st Street. Originally, the street made a 90-degree bend to the east at 71st Street, but the intersection underwent several changes in recent years that resulted in a new name. First, the 71st Street bridge opened in 1983 to create a standard four-way intersection. Following the widening of 71st Street to six lanes in 1985, Riverside Drive then was extended through the intersection in 1986, which eliminated the 71st Street and Peoria Avenue intersection. Today, Peoria Avenue turns southwest from its normal alignment to intersect Riverside Drive near 69th Street. The original Peoria Avenue alignment now ends at a concrete culdesac with a driveway to the east. This view is looking south from the Peoria "connection" to Riverside Drive and shows the culdesac with 71st Street in the distance. The old alignment south of 71st Street can be identified by the small gap in the trees. Photograph taken June 1988.
