Memorial Drive opened to traffic in late January 1986, and the results have been very positive. Traffic congestion no longer exists on the roadway, which now is four lanes to 116th Street. The 1980 sales tax provided funds for the right of way, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation built the new roadway. The medians are wide enough that they can be reduced to accommodate two additional lanes (one each way) if traffic counts warrant. This view is looking south from 101st Street.
