Traffic flow improved on Sheridan Road between 41st and 51st streets following the addition of a continuous left-turn lane along the one-mile stretch. The roadway, which originally was partially reconstructed and widened at 46th Street through a 1977 bond issue project, received the continuous left-turn lane through a project funded by the 1991 sales tax. A half lane was added to each side to allow reconfiguring of the street for the left-turn lane. Storm sewers and sidewalks from the earlier project remained intact, although some sidewalks were rebuilt at intersections where new concrete was poured. The project included adding a northbound left-turn lane at 46th Street and a northbound right-turn lane at 51st Street. A traffic signal also was installed at 43rd Street to benefit customers at Sam's Wholesale Club and adjacent businesses. Photograph taken June 20, 1997.
