Crews have demolished about eight piers of the old I-44 Arkansas River bridge and are hauling the rubble away. A front-end loader can be seen dumping bridge rubble into the truck for removal. An expansion joint is visible in the rubble to the left of the loader (note long, narrow metal strip). In the background, work is under way on building the first footings for the new bridge (near the dirt mounds). Photograph taken September 11, 1982.
