Much work is under way on demolishing the old I-44 Arkansas River bridge. Seven spans of girders have been removed from the eastbound lanes, and they have been deposited in the riverbed to be hauled away later. Workers presently are removing the deck from the western half of the bridge's eastbound lanes. The span over Riverside Drive remains intact. Photograph taken August 18, 1982.
