Decking of the I-44 Arkansas River bridge has reached the eighth span and soon will be 33 percent complete. At the west end, work is beginning on the bridge railings, and these will follow the deck across the river. Some of the girders from the old bridge can be seen on the west bank. These will be hauled away later in the project. Photograph taken May 7, 1983.
