Paving is under way on the east approach of the I-44 Arkansas River bridge. Part of the two right lanes have been paved, and reinforcing rods are being installed for the final section. Paving of the final lane will not be completed until eastbound traffic is switched to the new bridge and the eastbound lanes on the westbound bridge are closed. Parts of these lanes will need to be repaved because they are asphalt that was installed when the westbound bridge opened in 1981. Upon completion of the project, both bridges will have three lanes each way with shoulders. Photograph taken September 1, 1983.
