The new I-44 Arkansas River bridge is one span away from its predecessor as evidenced by this pier on the new bridge. The west portion of the old bridge remains in place, but it will be demolished soon so the remainder of the new bridge can be built. At the left end of the new pier is a ladder that allows workmen access to the pier's crossbeam. Photograph taken December 18, 1982.
