The I-44 Arkansas River bridge is scheduled to open next week, which should improve traffic flow in this area. The concrete barrier walls are complete, and crews are installing an overhead sign advising motorists of upcoming exits. The Riverside Drive exit is immediately across the bridge, while the exits for Peoria, Lewis and Harvard avenues are one, two and three miles ahead, respectively. The building (in the distance) below the sign is just east of Lewis Avenue. Traffic on the bridge will be restricted to two lanes, as the third lane will remain closed until final approach work is completed at both ends. Photograph taken October 27, 1983.
