The west approach to the I-44 Arkansas River bridge has been paved, and work is under way on building a barrier wall on the north side that will connect the Arkansas River bridge and the bridge over the former Midland Valley Railroad. The foundation is in place, and the remaining portion should be paved soon. The Elwood Avenue entrance ramp is at right, and the new bridge allows a merge lane, which slowly narrows in the background. The old bridge did not have a merge lane. Photograph taken October 1, 1983.
