The eastbound lanes of the old I-44 bridge over the former Midland Valley Railroad were closed in June 1981 when eastbound traffic was switched to the new Arkansas River bridge. Westbound traffic was switched in April 1981, and crews then built temporary lanes for eastbound traffic to access the new river bridge. The old bridge still has the eastbound approaches and lanes intact, but the old westbound lanes have been removed. There is no word as to what will become of this bridge when the river bridge is replaced. Photograph taken May 16, 1982.
