The deteriorating 21st Street bridge is scheduled to undergo a massive renovation that will preserve the piers and give motorists a new deck to drive on. The bridge's two outer lanes were closed in August 1977 due to deterioration, and the remaining two lanes are very rough. The deck's substructure is deteriorating, and reinforcing rods are visible in some areas.
A second part of the project, which is under a separate contract, involves reconstructing the 21st Street intersection with Riverside and Boulder drives to improve traffic flow. Photograph taken April 24, 1982.
