The old I-44 Arkansas River bridge has been closed for 11 months. The bridge was in use for about 30 years, and a truck tire is all that remains from the thousands of vehicles that crossed the bridge each day. Its deck is loaded with asphalt patches, and there are several places where the bridge railing is damaged. A chain-link fence was on the median, but it has been removed. This view of the bridge is looking west from the east end. Photograph taken May 16, 1982.
