Eastbound traffic backs up at 71st Street and Yale Avenue on a weekday afternoon. By 1980, the congestion was bad enough that the city installed an eastbound no-left-turn sign in effect from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m weekdays. Southbound traffic also backs up on Yale Avenue between 66th and 71st streets, but there are no turn restrictions for that direction. The intersection and section of Yale Avenue originally were part of the 1979 sales tax package, which was defeated. However, the project was included in the successful 1980 sales tax package, and construction likely will begin in 1983, according to the city of Tulsa. The intersection will be widened to four lanes with left- and right-turn lanes on each approach. The project also includes widening Yale Avenue between 66th and 71st streets.
