The 71st Street and Harvard Avenue intersection was completed in late 1995, which was the last intersection to be widened between the Arkansas River and the Mingo Valley Expressway. The intersection was lowered from its original grade and now has retaining walls on several corners. An idea of how much the intersection was lowered can be seen at the left where the driveway cuts through the retaining wall. The original intersection was near the level of the hill behind the retaining wall (just before the last vertical piece of the wall). Notice also that the small hill east of Harvard Avenue also is gone. Photograph taken June 20, 1997.
