The Yale Avenue intersection with I-44 is one of Tulsas's busiest along I-44. Traffic congestion is common on Yale Avenue during the afternoons, with northbound traffic often jammed up well beyond 51st Street and southbound traffic to near 41st Street. Yale Avenue is four lanes through the intersection and has a left-turn lane to access the interstate. However, traffic in the left-turn lanes often backs up into the left through lane, which contributes to the traffic jams. The I-44 bridges are beginning to show some deck deterioration and will need to be rehabilitated within the next few years. There are several motels near the intersection, including Ramada Inn to the west and a Hilton Inn on the southeast corner. A gas station one stood on the southeast corner of the eastbound frontage road and Yale Avenue and now is a Burger King. There are no plans to improve the intersection at this time, so traffic congestion likely will be around for a while. As evidenced by the signs, U.S. 66 travels with I-44 through this area.
