A new traffic signal system is the first of many changes planned at Skelly Drive and Peoria Avenue over the next few years. The signal, which was installed in April 2008, replaced the green-pole system that had been in place for many years. Although some signal heads had been replaced over the years, others had been there since at least 1974. The I-44 widening project is expected to commence at this intersection in the early 2010s, which will involve a major widening/reconstruction and replacing the bridge. Several properties in the area have been condemned for the widening. The first phase of the widening project is a large drainage structure that will be built just north of I-44, with work scheduled to begin in early 2009. Earlier in 2008, the closed Camelot Inn on the northwest corner was demolished. It likely will be replaced with a Quik Trip. Since the previous picture was taken, U.S. 66 has been replaced with S.H. 66 and S.H. 33 has been decomissioned in Tulsa (now begins in Sapulpa). The Pagoda Restaurant has closed its doors, and Borden's Cafeteria is long gone. Bellaire Village also has been renamed, and the old sign is gone. Photo taken November 2008.
