The Sixth Street and Peoria Avenue intersection underwent rehabilitation in 2011, which included resurfacing the intersection and installing new curbs, sidewalks and other enhancements, along with new traffic signals. The new signal system returns right-turn arrows for eastbound traffic, which previously were eliminated in 1982 when the "yield" left-turn signal was installed. A "restricted" left-turn signal also has been installed for westbound traffic, which had a peak-hour no-left-turn sign in place until it was removed in 1987. Eastbound Sixth Street traffic still cannot turn left (north) onto Peoria Avenue. This traffic signal conversion eliminates the "square" red and green traffic signal from Tulsa, and the only yellow signals remaining are those on left-turn signals at 61st Street's intersections with Lewis and Peoria avenues. The school on the northeast corner of Sixth Street and Peoria Avenue also is gone. Photo taken November 2011.
