Additional improvements were made in 2002 at Pine Street and Peoria Avenue as part of a project that widened and reconstructed Peoria Avenue between Pine Street and Mohawk Boulevard. The project, which was funded by the 1996 sales tax, included widening Peoria Avenue to four lanes with a left-turn median on a new alignment immediately west of the original alignment and improving intersections along the section. The original roadway was reconstructed into short segments to serve residents and businesses along the roadway, and a bicycle path was built throughout the 1.5-mile section. Improvements at Pine Street included rebuilding the north approach and adding right-turn lanes for all but northbound traffic. New traffic signals were installed for each direction, and new poles and mast arms were installed for each direction except eastbound, which retained the original pole and mast arm installed in the 1980 project. The left-turn medians on Pine Street also were modified. An Albertson's has been built on the northeast corner. Photo taken August 2003.
