With the exception of a couple of abandoned motels near Harvard Avenue (one barely visible at left), the right of way has been cleared for widening I-44 to six lanes from Yale Avenue to west of Harvard Avenue, including replacing the Harvard Avenue bridges. This view, looking west from Harvard Avenue, shows the interstate in its final weeks before workers move in and begin widening the highway. The interstate is going to be shifted slightly to the south to create a straight alignment that will connect to the alignment near Wheeling Avenue. As a result, the bends near Lewis Avenue will be history when all is finished in 2013. Construction is expected to begin on the Harvard project within the next couple of months and be completed in 2011. Photo taken July 4, 2009.
