The I-44 bridges over Darlington Avenue were replaced in 2010 as part of a project to widen I-44 to six lanes between Yale Avenue and west of 41st Street. During the project, westbound traffic was diverted to the I-44 access road, and the westbound bridge was replaced first, while eastbound traffic remained unchanged. Upon completion of the bridge, Eastbound traffic then was diverted to the new westbound bridge so the eastbound bridge could be rebuilt. Westbound traffic remained on the frontage road. The new bridges also have three spans with steel girders and full shoulders. The I-44 frontage roads in the area have been rebuilt with concrete. Children's Medical Center also has been demolished and replaced with a shopping center. Photo taken November 11, 2011.
