Left-turn signals have come and gone in the past at 81st Street and Lewis Avenue. However, they likely won't be leaving again. In 1975, the intersection had a left-turn signal for southbound traffic that was deleted and replaced by three signals, which stayed on the pole/mast arm set until it was replaced by a temporary signal in 1983 during a waterline installation project. Following completion of the waterline project in late 1983, a green pole and mast arm made their return with three signals, including a left-turn signal. A left-turn signal also was installed for northbound traffic. Other than the return of westbound right-turn arrows, no signal modifications were made on 81st Street. The intersection likely will see an increase in traffic in a few years following the opening of Riverside Drive to 81st Street, but no work is funded on 81st Street between Lewis Avenue the future extension at this time.
