The 71st Street and Yale Avenue intersection is scheduled to undergo an extensive widening project within the next two years that will unclog a major traffic bottleneck in south Tulsa. The intersection project, which is funded by the 1980 sales tax, includes widening the intersection to four lanes on each approach with left- and right-turn lanes and widening Yale Avenue to four lanes between 66th and 71st streets. This section of roadway often is bumper-to-bumper in the afternoon hours. Traffic counts are high enough that, in 1980, the city installed an eastbound no-left-turn sign in effect from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
