Traffic at 71st Street and Memorial Drive improved following a widening project at the intersection and its approaches. The project, which was funded by the 1994 bond issue, involved adding a third lane for southbound traffic, adding a third lane for northbound traffic on the south approach, adding a third lane for westbound traffic on the west approach and adding a third lane for eastbound traffic from west of Memorial Drive to 90th East Avenue, which is where the street originally became six lanes from there to the Mingo Valley Expressway following the 1989 widening project. Another job done at the intersection involved converting the northbound left-turn lane into a dual, which puts dual left-turn lanes on all four approaches. This project, which included installing new traffic signals and relocating the express right-turn lanes, was built in 1995. Photo taken June 1997.
