The 71st Street and Harvard Avenue intersection will undergo a drastic change in the 1990s when 71st Street is widened to six lanes in the area. Plans call for widening the intersection to six lanes on 71st Street and four lanes on Harvard Avenue, plus left- and right-turn lanes on each approach. The intersection will be lowered from its present grade. There are no businesses at the intersection, as there are residences on all four corners. A duplex on the northeast corner will be removed as part of the widening project. The intersectrion will be the last major intersection project on 71st Street between the Arkansas River and Mingo Valley Expressway, as all other intersections along the stretch have been widened.
