The 61st Street and Yale Avenue intersection received the fewest improvements from the Yale Avenue widening project because the intersection received its extensive widening in 1983-1984 as part of the 61st Street widening project between Yale Avenue and Sheridan Road. The intersection's major change from the Yale Avenue project was eliminating the right-turn lanes on Yale Avenue, as they now are part of the third through lane. The former northbound right-turn lane now connects to the third northbound lane north of 61st Street, while the former southbound right-turn lane continues as the third lane constructed in the earlier project that eventually is a right-turn lane into Warren Place (near 63rd Street). The left-turn signals again are restricted, which was necessary due to high traffic volumes and the four dual left-turn lanes that were installed during the aforementioned 61st Street project. The 61st Street approaches did not have any lane revisions, but one change involved replacing the curb-to-curb storm sewers with underground pipes and boxes, which made for a smoother ride on 61st Street. The Yale Avenue project was funded by the 1985 sales tax. Photo taken May 1993.
