The 61st Street and Memorial Drive intersection received a northbound right-turn lane in 1996 as part of the 61st Street widening project between 85th East Avenue and the Mingo Valley Expressway. The street, which was funded by the 1991 sales tax, was widened to five lanes and included improvements at the Mingo Road intersection. The addition of the northbound right-turn lane leaves only eastbound traffic without such a lane. A right-turn lane likely will be added for that direction when 61st Street is widened between Sheridan Road and Memorial Drive, which also is funded by the 1991 sales tax. A construction date has not been announced for that project. Photo taken June 1997.
