This intersection was a dangerous site until 1983, at which time a traffic signal was installed. The roadway originally was a four-lane street with deteriorating asphalt outer lanes. The 1977 bond issue provided funds to rebuild the outer lanes with concrete and install curbs and storm sewers (which were installed in a manner to allow future widening), as well as a southbound left-turn lane at 46th Street. Construction began in May 1982 and was completed in June 1983. Photo taken July 1985.
