This intersection received a minor improvement in the summer of 1991 as part of a street rehabilitation project. Peoria Avenue was resurfaced between 36th and 45th streets, which included the 41st Street and Peoria Avenue intersection. As part of the project, the west approach was restriped to add an eastbound left-turn lane and subtract a westbound through lane. The new configuration has two eastbound through lanes as before, but the second westbound through lane west of Peoria Avenue now is the eastbound left-turn lane. This allows for the left-turn lanes to be lined up, as well as a continuous westbound through lane instead of the option of expanding to two lanes immediately west of Peoria Avenue. West of the intersection, 41st Street is four lanes (two each way) to Riverside Drive. A new traffic signal also has been installed. In later years, the Safeway became Westlake Ace Hardware.
