The 23rd Street and Southwest Boulevard intersection is another major gateway to west Tulsa and the largest intersection on 23rd Street, as 21st Street and Southwest Boulevard is just a side-street intersection. Doglegs to the east and west create the change, and bridges also connect 23rd and 21st street at both ends. The 21st Street bridge over the Arkansas River does it at the east end, while the bridge over I-244/U.S. 75 and the Burlington Northern Railroad yard does it on the west end. This intersection was the second intersection in Tulsa to undergo a complete traffic signal conversion in 1982, including poles, without construction. The Southwest Boulevard approaches feature numerous stripes, which indicate the changes that have been made over time at this location.
