The 15th Street and Yale Avenue intersection was widened in 1982 for left-turn lanes on each approach and a right-turn lane for eastbound traffic. Prior to the widening project, the intersection was four lanes on each approach and had individual traffic signals on poles scattered around the intersection. There wasn't too much congestion, except during the Tulsa State Fair, but accidents sometimes were an issue. The west approach featured a grass median that began at Yale Avenue and extended west along 15th Street between Harvard and Yale avenues. Funded by the 1977 bond issue, the intersection was the last phase of the Yale Avenue project between 15th and 21st streets, which also included improvements at 21st Street. The intersection has a Safeway on the northwest corner, Bill's Tire Service on the northeast corner, a couple of businesses on the southeast corner and Tulsa County Stadium (formerly Sutton Stadium) on the southwest corner.
