The conversion of the traffic signal system at 11th Street and Peoria Avenue in the fall of 1984 brought several changes in addition to new signal lights. First, the yield system now is in place on 11th Street, which allows motorists to turn left when oncoming traffic clears instead of waiting for a green arrow. The right-turn arrows were deleted on Peoria Avenue, and pedestrian lights now are in place at the intersection. At the time of this photo, the peak-hour no-left-turn signs still were in use for Peoria Avenue, but they were removed in 1987. The pole from the old eastbound signals still stands on the southeast corner, as it also holds a utility line. Photo taken May 1986.
