A traffic signal conversion is under way at Sixth Street and Peoria Avenue that will convert the left-turn signals to the yield system and eliminate the right-turn arrows on Sixth Street. The intersection has received the yield left-turn signals, but they still are operating in "restrictive" mode by allowing a left turn only on a left arrow. In addition to the left-turn signal, new signals were installed on a mast arm for westbound traffic, which replaces those originally attached to the southbound signal pole and an individual pole north of it. A new set of signals also has been installed for eastbound traffic, which will replace signals on two separate poles (one of these still stands) and another signal that was attached to the northbound Peoria Avenue signal pole. Prior to this conversion, the eastbound signals on Sixth Street had green arrows, but they will be gone with the new configuration.
