Another project has been built at 31st Street and Memorial Drive, as Memorial Drive now is six lanes between 31st Street and the north side of I-44, which was done in conjunction with an I-44 bridge project to build six-lane bridges over 31st Street and Memorial Drive. Plans call for Memorial Drive to eventually be six lanes throughout Tulsa, but that project is many years in the future. Prior to this project, the major work done at the intersection was in 1985-1986 with the installation of right-turn lanes and an eastbound dual left-turn lane. However, several other changes have occurred since then. In 1990, the entire west approach was rebuilt because a large drainage structure was installed as part of the Audubon Creek flood control project. In 1993, the intersection's left-turn signals were converted from the yield system to the restricted system, which has been returned to most Tulsa intersections with dual left-turn lanes. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol office has moved from the northwest corner, and the building has been demolished. Photo taken May 1999.
