This intersection received improvements in 1977 that involved adding four right-turn lanes and extending the left-turn lanes to accommodate more vehicles. The outline of the old westbound left-turn median, foreground, is visible in the new left-turn lane. Upon completion of the project, a right-turn signal (red, yellow and green right-turn arrows) was installed on each pole, and the through-traffic signals on the mast arms had green straight arrows. In 1980, this was the second-to-last intersection to undergo the green arrow conversion, at which time the five-headed signals were installed on the mast arms, and the signals on the poles were eliminated. The left-turn signals were converted to the yield system earlier this year, but the right-turn arrows remain because each direction has a right-turn lane. No improvements are planned at the intersection at this time. Boman Acres Shopping Center, which features a blue and green theme on its storefronts, is located on the northeast corner and has the Boman Twin Theater as one of its tenants. Grandy's is located on the southeast corner. Hudson Avenue is at the top of the distant hill. Photo taken July 1982.
