The 21st Street and Sheridan Road intersection experiences congestion during daytime hours. According to city officials, it is a candidate for future improvements, which would include widening the lanes for better width, adding right-turn lanes for each direction and extending the left-turn lanes to accommodate more vehicles at a given time. However, there is no timetable nor funding for the project. This intersection had right-turn arrows until they were deleted in 1981, and the left-turn signal eventually will be converted to the yield system. The building on the northwest corner (partially visible to the right of the empty sign) was a Sambo's Restaurant, which now is closed. Handy Dan, a home building supply/hardware store, is located on the northeast corner, with Casa Bonita and other local establishments located in a large shopping center on the southwest corner. Fairway Auto Parts is located on the south side of 21st Street east of Sheridan Road. To the east of Fairway is Nathan Hale High School. Photo taken July 1982.
