Lewis Avenue and 31st Street intersection first to undergo complete traffc Signal Conversion

              The 31st Street and Lewis Avenue intersection, shown looking west, is the first intersection in Tulsa to undergo a complete traffic signal conversion (without widening), including signals, poles and mast arms. The old green poles, which often have to be repainted to prevent them from rusting, are being replaced by galvanized poles and mast arms, one of which stands next to the westbound signals. Galvanized poles now are being installed for any new permanent traffic signals in the city, including intersections that are being widened. Eventually, every intersection likely will have a galvanized pole, but that is expected to take many years to complete. This intersection's traffic signal conversion will include eliminating the right-turn arrows and installing the yield left-turn signa; and pedestrian lights. Photograph taken April 17, 1982.
