In 1985, a new vantage point appeared on Harvard Avenue in the form of a pedestrian bridge near 55th Place. This view, looking north, shows an unusually quiet Harvard Avenue approaching 51st Street and I-44 in the distance. There once was a school crossing light at 55th Place, but this was removed following completion of the pedestrian bridge. Flooding sometimes occurs along this section, as the South Fork of Little Joe Creek passes under Harvard Avenue below the bridge and then travels along the street (left) for a short distance before meandering northwest to join Joe Creek. Most of this section of Harvard Avenue does not have curbs or storm sewers, and open ditches line the street between 56th and 61st streets. Photograph taken August19, 1987.
