Traffic jams have become history on Garnett Road between 51st and 61st streets following the widening of the roadway to five lanes in 2007-2008. The project, which was funded by the 2001 and 2006 sales tax packages, widened the street to five lanes of concrete and improved the Union Pacific Railroad crossing near 53rd Street. A traffic signal was installed at 55th Place. The completion of this section makes Garnett Road five lanes from 11th to 81st streets, with the portion between 61st and 81st streets in Broken Arrow.
