The Boulder Avenue bridge's substructure is different from bridges of today, as there is not a pier cap separating the pier columns from the girders. Instead, the girders rest on top of columns that share a common footing, sometimes above ground. The railing supports have a small area between them and the sidewalks, and the columns all have a "decoration" at the top. This view shows the bridge looking north from a gravel parking lot that has yet to be paved. In the background is a dark area that is protected on both sides by buildings. The bridge is starting to show its age, as a column in the foreground appears to be deteriorating. Photograph taken June 1982.
