Recent news reports mentioned that the Boston Avenue bridge over the Burlington Northern Railroad was going to be renovated into a pedestrian bridge. That work now is under way, as crews are demolishing the northernmost span of the bridge. The span is coming down without much effort from the lead weight that is being used to demolish it. Each "hit" is causing quite a bit of concrete to come down, including a large piece of one of the bridge's girders (leaning against the pier). The evidence of the 1979 fire clearly is visible from the soot visible on the side of the span adjacent to the demolition area. The demolition should wrap up in the near future.
