The 81st Street and Mingo Road intersection lost its "interim" label following a major widening project in 2007. The project, which was funded by the 2001 and 2006 sales tax packages, involved widening 81st Street to five lanes between Mingo Road and the Mingo Valley Expressway and the intersection to four lanes on each approach, with left- and right-turn lanes each direction. The widening was unusual from a traffic signal standpoint, as the permanent signals were installed at the start of the project. Most intersection widening projects in Tulsa have a temporary cable-strung traffic signal in place during construction and then receive the permanent permanent signal at the conclusion. The permament signal was on a timed cycle during the project, and the turn arrows did not operate. Several businesses have been built on the south side of 81st Street, but the land to the north remains undeveloped. The house that once stood on the southeast corner is long gone.
