The 71st Street and Mingo Road intersection was completed in 1989, which eliminated a major traffic bottleneck in this area of Tulsa. The intersection, which was part of a project to widen 71st Street to six lanes between 90th East Avenue and the Mingo Valley Expressway, received six through lanes on 71st Street, four through lanes on Mingo Road, plus left-and right-turn lanes on each approach. Traffic flows without much congestion now, and 71st Street carries a heavy load from the Woodland Hills Mall area to the Mingo Valley Expressway and Broken Arrow. The project, which was funded by the 1985 sales tax, began in November 1988 and was completed in November 1989. Mingo Road remains two lanes on either side of the 71st Street intersection.
